Manipal University welcomed more than 1,000 new students to its campus in Dubai International Academic City during its Orientation Day recently held at Jumeirah Beach Hotel.

About 1,500 students registered for postgraduate, undergraduate, foundation and certificate programmes in various disciplines for the fall semester.

Students were excited about their pursuit of higher education. Zainab Das, media and communications student at the university, said that she was very excited about her transition from school to university.

"This is going to be an invigorating experience," she said. "School and university are totally different from each other in terms of everything — people, academics and the overall environment — and I'm ready for the challenge."

Das said the orientation was a perfect opportunity to acquaint herself with the campus community.

"It was very well organised," she said. "We learned many things about the university we didn't know before. There was even an interactive question-and-answer session to answer any parent and student enquiries."

While some students are just beginning their journey into higher education, others have decided to further it.

Cruti Brahmbhatt is pursuing her masters in biotechnology after completing a bachelor's degree in the same field.
"A master's is more research oriented and will give me a chance to learn more about the field," she said. The degree will also grant me many more opportunities in the future in terms of career work."

The university also announced the commencement of five engineering degree programmes this semester, including mechatronics, instrumentation and control, civil, mechanical and communication.
