Kingdom of Technology

Today, technology has taken over the whole world. Everyone from 3-year-olds to 86-year-olds are using some form of technology. The dependence on technology is increasing by the minute.

Nowadays, kids at school complain that they couldn't finish their homework because the internet wasn't working and that they couldn't "Google" it. According to Times.com 16-year-old Cory Ryder went to the extent of hiring a hit man to kill his parents because they took away his PlayStation 2. What has the world come to?

Technology has become a ruling power over the world and its inhabitants. People are increasingly becoming addicted to the different types of technology. The internet is a very common addiction among people, especially children.

They can't go a day without checking their e-mail or messaging their friends on Facebook, the same friends they saw just a few hours earlier. Facebook is a social networking site that has become a very popular platform for various activities, the most recent being advertising various products and services.

Another addiction is video games, mostly among teens and adults. Video games transport people into a different world, taking them away from reality.

Technology is reducing the need for the physical presence of a person. For example, professionals are now adopting the method of video conferencing in which people around the world just conference through their camera.

Telephones help convey news without actually going all the way over in person. E-mails have replaced hand-written letters. E-shopping has replaced going to the market.

Is technology reducing us to nothing more than machine-using maniacs? Is it reducing our capability to do so much more? Is technology good or bad? This is the question on everyone's minds. I think technology is making us go beyond reality and opening up new opportunities for us.

Without technology, development would have been a slow process. We have all become citizens of the Kingdom of Technology. And it has become our way of living now.
