Designers say actresses inspired to create one-of-a-kind ensembles

Freida Pinto’s gild web gown, designed by Sanchita Ajjampur, got the attention it seeked at the 66th Cannes International Film Festival. Ajjampur says she took a “risk” with the “unconventional” ensemble that Pinto wore to the premiere of Jeune & Jolie on Thursday, but was glad her hard work paid off.
“Both Freida and I took a huge risk with this unconventional outfit for her red carpet appearance,” Ajjampur said in a statement. “Freida wears clothes from my label quite often, but this year we resolved to do something big at an international scale. It was a lot of hard work, but it has definitely paid off.
The “something classic but with a twist” creation was “a gild web holding the entire dress together with embellished dragon flies trapped in it. Dragon-fly hair accessories finished the look creating a dramatic, surreal and fantasy-like appeal,” said the designer.
Ajjampur has been working with Pinto for three years now and feels the Slumdog Millionaire actress is one of the best dressed woman.
Meanwhile Bollywood fashion icon Sonam Kapoor was seen in a voluminous floral Dolce & Gabbana gown at the same event as Pinto on Thursday. Having worn an Anamika Khanna and Shehla Khan creation on the first day of the extravaganza, the L’Oreal Paris ambassador teamed the dress with lilac footwear, a necklace designed by her mother Sunita Kapoor and side-swept hair.
The ensemble had Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana gushing on their Facebook page: “Sonam Kapoor for us represents the epitome of the golden era of Hollywood, thanks to her natural elegance, her femininity and class. For her, we created a special piece dress that could emphasise her unique beauty.”
