Steff Prescott: Over and out

Once a promising star, Steff Prescott’s career never really took off because of alleged attitude problems. But the feisty talent surprised critics and fans again when she announced she is ready to leave showbusiness. Find out why.

Is it true that the reason why you’re quitting showbusiness is because you are pregnant?

Yes, it is true. I am five months on the way and I couldn’t be happier.

This means leaving whatever career you have left for good?

I can see myself doing that. What happened to me is a great blessing. In fact, the moment I found out I was pregnant, I didn’t cry or was not afraid. I was happy – this was a new chapter in my life. I thanked God for this new blessing. I am happy to embrace it and explore it. No regrets about leaving showbiz, although if there are assignments in the future I would welcome it. But I can see myself focusing on my family completely — so I am happy with that.

What are your immediate plans?

I will be six months pregnant this coming June. I am planning to give birth in the US, so I will be travelling and doing a lot of preparations. It is my first time so there are a lot of things that I don’t know about. I don’t know if what I am feeling is normal or how I should react. So there are things I have to discover.

What did your family say about this?

They’re very supportive. My father was okay with it, although my mum was initially sad when I first broke the news to them. But now, everyone is behind me all the way and I’m thankful that my mum is with me on this, because she can help me with the questions that I have about pregnancy.

Will you still be doing projects before you leave?

If there’s anything I can do before going to the US why not? It will help. But if there is nothing, I am also okay with it.

What about marriage plans?

My partner and I have talked about marriage, but it will not happen until next year. My pregnancy will be the priority in the meantime. There’s no rush to do the wedding, because it will eventually happen. We’re just focused on having the baby in the meantime. I just want to be the best mother for my baby.
