Say Nambiyaar and Tamil film lovers will immediately remember the villain from M. G. Ramachandran and Sivaji Ganesan’s films. Nambiyaar is synonymous with everything evil.

So why would a new director and a new producer name their first film after this character?

Debutant director Ganeshaa says that Nambiyaar is a metaphor for the evil traits inherent in all of us. With Tamil actor Srikanth playing Ramachandran, an Indian Administrative Service aspirant, Nambiyaar is about the challenges that come in the way of realising his dream.

Nambiyaar, his alter ago symbolises Ramachandran’s weaknesses and his bad side.

Ganeshaa has attempted a new kind of narration where the character Nambiyaar exists only inside Ramachandran’s mind and not in his life. Nambiyaar surfaces whenever Ramachandran is in a dilemma and the two hold conversations with each other. Comedian Santhanam plays Nambiyaar. Sunaina plays Ramachandran’s lover, Saroja Devi.

Srikanth has produced Nambiyaar under his banner Golden Friday Films. Vijay Antony has scored the music.

Ganeshaa assures that this is a fun film while producer Srikanth promises a clean family entertainer.

So who wins eventually? Is it Ramachandran’s character or the Nambiyaar within us?
