The Scene team on what they're seeing, eating, wearing and watching this week...

I’ll cut to the chase, I’m in total need of a haircut and keep getting style-inspired by Ginnifer Goodwin’s ‘do as the hapless Gigi in He’s Just Not That Into You (even though her character was face-punchingly wet). Defo something to ponder as I embark on a pretty quiet end of Jan/start of Feb. I have grandiose plans to revamp a battered cabinet I’ve got, with some fab handles I picked up in the Zara Home sale, and I fear… I mean, look forward to, a trip or two to Ace Hardware for sanding items and paint. Wow, do I sound like I know what I’m doing or what?! There’s also the small matter of embarking on my least favourite aspect of shopping – the purchasing of work shoes. Don’t you begrudge buying the sensible-heeled numbers when what you really want are some incredible, six-inch-high party shoes? I’m just not that into them…

I’m loving the cooler weather at the moment and so my weekends are all about getting outside and feeling the chill. On Thursday night I’ll be meeting some friends at my favourite new pizzeria, 800 Pizza in Souk Al Manzil in Downtown Dubai – the fresh, organic ingredients they use are delish, and the alfresco terrace is a great place to unwind. Then, on Friday, I’m heading to Sharjah to visit the Blue Souq – I’ve been after a Persian rug for ages, and I’ve heard it’s way cheaper to buy one there than anywhere in Dubai. On Tuesday night I’ll be visiting 360 for the ladies’ night – they’re playing classic hits (my guilty pleasure), are giving every group of six ladies a free bottle to make mojitos with, and have put up wind barriers and heaters to make it bearable (I’m still glad I’ll have a chance to wear my favourite leather jacket, however). Tables are free, but book one in advance to nab one.

It’s been a whirlwind of a week – topped off by last night’s truly spectacular Scene party (which was a fashion fest that I’m not sure next month’s Oscars could even beat), but after the glitz, glamour and gorgeousness of it all, I’m off for some much needed R&R at the Hilton Ras Al Khaimah Resort & Spa – which, as a matter of fact, is glam and gorgeous too. Aside from getting there by Seawings plane (how totally showbiz is that?!), I’ll be enjoying the glorious weather on a pristine beach in a private bay, tucking into totally yummy food, exploring the beautiful grounds and dessert surroundings and being generally pampered for 48 hours solid in one of RAK’S hottest hideaways, Spoilt? Moi? Well, yes, actually. I love it!

I’ve got absolutely no idea how it happened, but I haven’t had a chance to head down to what looks like the most insane club in the world, so this evening I’m putting that right and heading to Cirque du Soir. I’ve heard amazing things about it, so it has a lot to live up to. In the spirit of the Year of the Dragon on Friday night I’m paying a visit to my fave dim sum spot, Ping Pong, for a total dumpling-fest, then in the evening I’ll be celebrating the best of all things Australian at XL Beach Club – yes, it’s a day late, but Mark Seymour is playing so I’m there. On Tuesday I’m going to indulge in ladies night fun and hit up Mahiki for the famous Pin-Up Tuesdays, where I’ll enjoy a few island cocktails.
