She has long been the darling of both the US and international tabloids, making headlines for her choice in clothes, cars and men. But Kim Kardashian's decision to end her marriage to basketball player, Kris Humphries, after just 72 days - and after making a rumoured Dh65 million out of her nuptials - has seen the reality TV star pilloried for what fans have slammed as a "sham" marriage undertaken simply as a cynical money-making venture.

And the backlash has shocked the Kardashian clan, who for so long have appeared to believe they could carry on as they liked, as long as they kept endorsing products, baring their entire lives on their various TV shows and - most importantly - keeping the cash rolling in.

Completely blindsided by the criticism aimed at 31-year-old Kim - and apparently believing that fans would simply swallow the message that her daughter's three-month-long marriage was "too hard" - the family matriarch, Kris Jenner, who manages her three eldest daughters' careers and has been credited with helping the family earn over Dh235 million last year, hit out at fans, sniping, "…you have a lot of people making assumptions and judging us unfairly." Adding in a bid for the sympathy vote, "…for all those naysayers out there that, you know, kind of comment and judge me on being out here trying to do my best, it's just a shame that people don't think the best."
