Appearing on the red carpet is about standing out — but Cheryl Cole was in danger of blending in

Appearing on the red carpet is usually about standing out — but for once, Cheryl Cole was in danger of blending in.
The 28-year-old looked every inch the screen siren at the Cannes Film Festival in an elegant fishtail gown by French designer Stephane Rolland.
But while the top half of the striking dress gleamed bright and white, the feathered red train appeared to melt into the carpet beneath her.
In her summery outfit, Cole braved stormy weather and torrential rain for the premiere of Michael Haneke's Amour.
The film, which examines old age, death and the relationship between an elderly couple, is a contender to win the Palme d'Or.
On arrival Cole wrote on Twitter: "About to walk the red carpet — it's raining!"
The singer was flown to Cannes by private jet to promote L'Oreal, one of the festival's sponsors.
And mingling with movie stars will be good preparation for her return to London. She was expected to fly back for yesterday's premiere of What To Expect When You're Expecting — in which she makes her movie debut.
