A Dubai-based stand-up comedian is launching the country’s first rent-a-comic concept. Nitin Mirani, 33, one of the longest-serving comics in the fledgling UAE circuit, says his Laugh Your Assets Off will be tailor-made especially targeted at corporates.

“What we will do is basically walk into your office, maybe at lunch time, and for about 30 to 40 minutes get you to laugh away your worries and then walk off,” he explains. “We will bring our own set-up, so you could be sitting at your desk and enjoying the show. It’s therapeutical, can help you switch off and calm you down, even for a little while.”

Mirani, who founded his company Komic Sutra in 2009, also has an army of comics he could bring with him, depending on budgets and requirements, of course.

“Bosses are clever these days, they put their employees in a good mood and then tell them about the numbers they’ve screwed up.”

Preparing for an international tour, which will include gigs in New York, Manila and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe — the world’s largest arts festival, Mirani is also set to make his first break into Bollywood later this year.

Meanwhile, four Dubai comedians, including founders of Dubomedy, Ali Al Sayed and Mina Luccione, will also be heading to the Fringe festival. A comedy show, called Big In Dubai, has been specially created for the festival. But before they leave the UAE, the group will hold a send-off show on July 4 at The Address Hotel, Dubai Marina, called The Road to Edinburgh.
