Flagged off from Abu Dhabi Wednesday morning and joined by many from Dubai
Dubai: Patriotic fervor spilled on to the streets on Wednesday as an all women club of young emiratis held a Unity Drive across the seven emirates to celebrate the 38th UAE National day.
With the national flag gliding down from behind their abhayas and draped in UAE colours doubling up as sheilas, members of the Women Auto Racing Club got behind the wheels also to fight for a cause – ‘to drive away diabetes.’
The Unity Drive that was flagged off from Abu Dhabi Wednesday morning was joined by more members from Dubai who stopped at the Dubai Festival City to distribute UAE flags and flyers on Diabetes awareness.
The convoy of cars painted in red, green, black and white then proceeded to Sharjah and passed through Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain before culminating in Ajman.
Shaima Al Sayed, member of the organising committee said the idea of the Unity Drive is to celebrate the formation of UAE federation and also use the occasion to spread awareness of the chronic disease, which is a growing threat to the nation.
“It is a great occasion that reminds us of the hard work by our leaders in forming this great country. We are taking advantage of the occasion to spread some social awareness too,” said Shaima, who is an active member of the Auto Club.
The Club was formed in September 2006 to give women opportunities and training in motor sports, and currently has over 150 members through out the UAE.
