Two-day event is set to showcase the latest in mobile technologies
Dubai: The Mobile Show will bring the latest mobile technologies that will help brands create better customer experiences when it opens on Tuesday at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The second edition of the event, which runs until Wednesday, is expected to attract about 70 exhibitors from around the world, and over 2,000 visitors.
On one side of the show there will be an exhibition, which will showcase the latest mobile technologies, from mobile apps to mobile computing services.
“We will be showcasing the power of mobile. It’s not just about apps; it’s also about mobile computing, which is reshaping the way we live, work, entertain ourselves and learn,” said Matt Wallhead, general manager at Terrapinn, the organizer of the event.
Coming to the show are representatives from Blackberry, Google, the New York Times and Mobily, among others. Experts will demonstrate services that consumers can engage with on their mobiles.
Jim McKelvey, co-founder of Square will discuss the company’s mobile payment technology. The square-shaped device allows credit cards to be accepted anywhere in the world. It fits into the port of any Android and iOS device, and reads credit cards, allowing businesses to make payments quickly.
“Mobile technologies are a big part of everyone’s lives. Companies are creating services and engaging with customers via mobiles,” Wallhead said.
Health-care apps are one of the industry trends that will be on show.
“Heath-care apps are reshaping media and marketing. Users can also use messaging and video services to consult their doctors. It’s happening in the US, and we’re seeing that grow here,” Wallhead said.
Users can utilise these apps to monitor their health, from checking blood pressure to monitoring their blood sugar level, he said.
“There are a lot of advantages to this for health-care operators. It can lessen their infrastructure costs and they can put their investments into health-care services,” he said.
Meanwhile, there will be a series of conferences covering industry challenges, opportunities and trends. Some of the debates will cover enterprise apps and security, mobile payments and mobile gaming.
Additionally, there will also be several seminars on mobile entertainment, health, commerce and advertising.
