Sony Ericsson rolls out six handsets globally

Dubai: Sony Ericsson yesterday launched six mobile phone models globally, three of which will be available by June and the rest by year-end.

Sony Ericsson revealed Xperia - a new sub-brand that converges mobile technology. Its first model, the X1 combines a three-inch clear wide VGA display touch screen, a full Qwerty keyboard within a quality metal-finish body, with arc slider and optical joystick navigation.

The X1 provides multimedia entertainment and mobile Web communication, with Windows Mobile, WiFi support and GPS.

"Xperia represents the first brand that is truly borne from within Sony Ericsson. It represents our vision for a premium, energised communication experience," said Husni Al Assi, general manager of Sony Ericsson-Mena.

"This launch, and the announcement of the X1, further strengthens the overall Sony Ericsson brand and places us at the forefront of mobile convergence."

The company also revealed the W980, a Walkman phone that is designed to cater to the needs of music lovers. It has 8GB internal memory, superior sound quality with stereo, bass and equaliser that combine to provide a clear audio experience. It also has a built-in FM transmitter that allows sound to be transmitted from the mobile to a hi-fi or car stereo. This model will be available in June this year.

The new G700 and G900 phones are designed to place organiser features and easy finger-touch control within familiar form factors.

Touch screen models, the G700 comes with a 3.2 MP camera while the G900 comes with a 5.0 MP touch auto focus, multi-shot camera and WiFi for high speed data transfer and internet browsing. They also come with the feature of sticky notes inside the phone.

Two models of Cybershot were also launched. The C702, splash and dust resistant with a built-in GPS with location-based imaging, allows pictures to viewed according to where they were taken, is for those who enjoy taking pictures outdoors.
