Sharjah: The Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) announced on Saturday the total number of trading licenses issued and renewed in the Eastern Region, Kalba and Khorfakkan, in the first half of 2008 increased a total of 2465.

The increase represents a 12.4 per cent growth compared to 2194 trading licenses issued during the corresponding period in 2007.

“The Eastern Region, Kalba and Khorfakkan, is seeing a growing demand for issuing and renewing trading licenses in that part of the emirate, which is currently witnessing an economic boom in line with the record economic growth rates achieved throughout the emirate of Sharjah, and the UAE, in general,'' said Ali bin Salem Al Mahmoud, SEDD's General Manager.

The number of new trading licenses issued in Khorfakkan in the first half of 2008 was up 25.2 per cent compared to the corresponding period in 2007.

SEDD's Khorfakkan's branch has issued 204 new trading licenses in the first half of this year ended June 30 against 163 new trading licenses for the first six months of 2007.
