Dubai: Julius Meinl, the Austrian gourmet supermarket, restaurant and coffee brand, is set to open in Dubai Mall in early 2012.

The Austrian house, famous for its gourmet coffee, is being brought to Dubai by retail conglomerate Bin Hendi.

"It's a boutique type of supermarket which has great foods and a few restaurants, and is due to open in early 2012," Mohi-din Bin Hendi, president of Bin Hendi enterprises, told Gulf News.

In Austria, Julius Meinl's culinary menu, available both in their supermarkets and restaurants, includes more than 16,000 delicacies, 400 kinds of cheese, a wide selection of chocolates, caviar and truffles, and Meinl's Restaurant is considered among the top five in Austria.

The Austrian company also operates three coffee shops in Chicago, USA, besides their presence in Europe. This will be their first outlet in the region.

Bin Hendi, which also owns food concepts Japengo, Bella Donna and China Times, is looking to bring in additional newer food concepts to the UAE.

"Our new additions are called Hanchai and Now Café. These are due to open very soon — in the next three to four months," said Bin Hendi.
