Dubai: Property tycoon Donald Trump and Robert Alain (also known as Spiderman) will attend a conference in Dubai which will dissect issues confronting the region's facilities management industry.

Alain earned his moniker after scaling more than 80 buildings, including the Burj Khalifa. Trump will open the conference via a video-link.

The two-day event opening on March 11 under the theme ‘The New Economy — The right time and right place for FM', represents the first Mefma (Middle East Facility Management Association) conference.

New developments

"Facilities management is becoming the barometer for a developing economy because it marks the completion of new developments being handed over with improved consideration for the service agreement," said Mohammad Al Muhairi, CEO of Musanada and board member of Mefma.

In the Middle East, the facilities management industry is expected to be worth $8 billion (Dh29.38 billion) by 2013 and with profit margins of 10 to 15 per cent.
