Prices of most essential items remain stable

Dubai: The latest consumer price index released by the Ministry of Economy (MoE) has revealed a certain degree of stability on prices of most of the essential goods, which in a way has helped consumers control their grocery bills.

The price index has revealed that prices of prime commodities have come down at various retail outlets compared to the rates some two weeks ago.

For example, at Carrefour in Dubai, UAE-made white bread (big size) is down from Dh1.30 per six pieces to Dh1.20; Dubai LuLu Centre offers the food item at Dh1.40.

However, at Union Co-operative Society, it is sold for Dh2.35.

The price of white sugar in plastic bag locally packed remains at Dh2.90 per two kilograms at LuLu Centre and Dh3.50 in Union Cooperative Society.

Carrefour Dubai, meanwhile, has jacked up the price to Dh4.55 from Dh2.95. Fresh Yoghurt produced locally in the UAE is sold at Dh11 per kilogram at almost all the retailers.

Some figures for basic commodities at the rest of the stores covered by the ministry's weekly survey were not available.

The Ministry of Economy collated these prices last Monday, covering around 43 essential commodities.
