Prices of basic items drop slightly

Dubai: The prices of basic commodities dropped slightly this week, according to information supplied by the Ministry of Economy on Tuesday.

The price of fresh milk decreased by Dh1 at LuLu, Carrefour and Union Cooperative Society stores in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi while the price of fresh boneless beef imported from Australia dropped slightly.

The cost of red onions imported from India dropped slightly at the Union Cooperative, Carrefour and LuLu centres in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

In Abu Dhabi, onions sold for Dh1.60 at Union Cooperative, Dh1.45 at Carrefour and Dh1.40 at LuLu, dropping from Dh1.65, Dh1.60 and Dh 1.75 respectively. In Dubai, the commodity dropped from Dh1.70 to Dh1.60 at the Union Cooperative Society and from Dh1.60 to Dh1.40 at LuLu centres.

The price of tomatoes dropped at the Abu Dhabi Cooperative Society and the cost of potatoes fell slightly at LuLu centres in the emirate.

The cost of fine granulated sugar and Affia corn oil also dropped at Carrefour stores in Abu Dhabi.

In Dubai, the price of locally produced boneless beef dropped at LuLu centres and the cost of halloumi cheese dropped at Carrefour stores.

Carrefour stores in Dubai also reduced their prices of Pantene Pro-V shampoo, Diamond aluminum foil, Sensodyne tooth paste and shaving blades, imported from Saudi Arabia, Britain, the US and England, respectively. A slight drop in the cost of fabric softener and soap was also recorded at stores in Abu Dhabi.

Despite a slight drop in costs this week, the price of basic commodities has been increasing steadily, with Abu Dhabi's Department of Planning and Economy (DPE) index revealing that the price of basic commodities increased by 2.43 per cent in July.
