Abu Dhabi: The Dubai Tram will we operational by November 2014, serving Marina to Nakheel areas, Adnan Al Hammadi, Rail Agency CEO of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), said on Monday at the MEED Rail Summit which is held in Abu Dhabi.

“The Dubai Tram will be ready to serve passengers by November 2014 to commute passengers from Marina to Nakheel with 11 stations ,” said Al Hammadi.

He added: “About 50 per cent of the Tram project has been completed and remaining part will be finished and operational by November 2014 to relieve congestion, decrease pollution and accidents, leading to Dubai’s economic growth.”

Al Hammadi remarked that the prices of properties nearby Dubai Metro had increased by 20 per cent and “this is an indirect benefit of RTA network to the market”.

“Our vision for 2020 and 2030 is in line with Dubai vision of safe transport; yet our main challenge is to convince people to resort to public transportation and divert them from their own cars,” he explained.

He added that Dubai Metro has served millions of passengers since inception about three years ago.

“When we started almost three years ago, we transported 1.6 million passengers per month while nowadays we are transporting almost 8.6 million per month and we are targeting to increase this number to reach 10 million in the future,” concluded Al Hammadi.
