At the macroeconomic level, the world is in the midst of a major, enduring transition, with the Gulf holding a watching brief. Microcosmically, Financial Review enters a ‘minor transitional phase', with a slightly adjusted offering this time.

Double-dip recession may be the least of collective concerns if the eurozone collapses, the West does not grow (or restrain itself) enough to overcome its past excesses, and the East tries simply to protect its counterpart financial surpluses.

This region is set to be impacted in terms of income receipts, while even so presented with certain investment opportunities. Let's hope a depressive degree of dislocation isn't in the offing.

This, our twentieth edition, examines the possibilities from the global turmoil, besides the ongoing efforts among the GCC nations to pursue a commercially diversified way ahead, with enhancements to trade, and business overseas, such as DP World's London Gateway project.

Naturally, we touch upon complementary miscellanies, such as technological trends, the Indian economy, and downturn-defying bank and corporate success stories.

Not quite all change, then. But the old certainties will do well to survive in what's to become a brave new world.
