Airbus opens logistics centre in Dubai

Dubai: Airbus has opened a logistics centre in Dubai to supply aircraft spare parts to its customers in the region.

Airbus president and chief executive officer Thomas Enders said the centre will reduce the time and cost of transporting aircraft parts.

The current inventory at the $10-million facility is worth about $55 million, and it includes parts for the A380 superjumbo.

"Dubai has one of the world's most modern and fastest-growing airports, serving more than 120 airlines flying to more than 205 destinations worldwide, and hence an ideal location for a centre of this type," Enders said.

Outside Europe, Airbus has logistics facilities in Beijing, Shanghai, Washington and Singapore.

The Material and Logistics Centre is located in Dubai Airport Free Zone and has 3,700 square metres of storage space and office facilities.

It will stock more than 5,000 parts with around 43,000 items in at any point of time.

It includes an avionics and electronics repair station and storage facilities for original equipment manufacturers "to enable commercial and technical support with optimised delivery lead times."
