Dubai: Arabian Gulf League leaders Sharjah were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Kalba on Sunday, allowing second-placed Al Ain to close the gap to just two points with their 2-0 win at home to Bani Yas.

Balazs Dzsudzsak’s penalty just after the hour pulled Kalba level for the second time after Myke Ramos cancelled out Igor Coronado’s 17th minute opener before the half hour.

Saif Rashid put Sharjah back in front three minutes later, only for Dzsudzsak to secure the point midway through the second half.

Goals either half from Rayan Yaslam and Hussain Al Shahat, meanwhile, gave Al Ain a 2-0 victory at home to Bani Yas.

It marks a return to winning ways for Al Ain, who lost 2-1 at home to Sharjah last week, for their second defeat in four.

Sharjah on the other hand have now drawn three of their past five as their title run also slows after an initial fast start.

In Sunday’s other game mid-table Al Nasr beat struggling Al Dhafra 2-0 at home courtesy of Alvaro Negredo’s 28th minute opener and a 43rd minute own goal from Khaled Obaid.

Al Nasr’s win comes after two draws and this is the sixth straight game that Negredo has scored in. Al Dhafra meanwhile have now lost two on the trot following a period of four wins.
