Dubai: The Indian Consulate in Dubai is resuming the ‘open house’ forum that addresses the grievances of the Indian expat community members under its jurisdiction.
The Consul General of India and consulate officials will address the grievances of Indian nationals residing in Dubai and Northern Emirates from 11am to 1pm on Saturday, May 4, the mission has announced.
The event does not require any registration and is accessible via direct walk-in at the consulate’s auditorium.
A spokesperson for the mission told Gulf News that this is the first Open House to be publicised in a big way ever since the current Consul General of India in Dubai, Satish Kumar Sivan, assumed office. He confirmed that the forum will be held more frequently based on the response from the attendees.
The open house was a regular event held at the Indian Consulate many years ago. It was discontinued since the consulate officials were made available every morning during the weekdays to address the issues of community members.
In 2018, Vipul, the then Consul General of India in Dubai, reintroduced the forum citing that many Indian workers were not able to visit the mission during working days. However, the monthly event was again discontinued during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr Aman Puri, Vipul’s successor, introduced a 365-day work policy for the mission from August 2021, providing officers for emergency services from 8am to 10am on weekends and public holidays as well.
There are an estimated 3.5million Indians living in the UAE and the majority of them live in Dubai and Northern Emirates that come under the Indian Consulate.
