Dubai: A student, who is under the age of 21, has been accused of using his friend’s Emirates ID to enter a beach party at a luxurious hotel on The Palm Jumeirah.

Security guards were said to have banned the 19-year-old Indian student, V.R., from entry to the beach party in May where individuals under 21 were not permitted.

When asked to present identification documents, the student was said to have produced his friend’s Emirate ID.

The guards in charge of security at the beach party called the police to double check on the IDs of V.R. and seven of his friends.

When policemen discovered that V.R. had presented another person’s Emirates ID to enter the party, he was taken into custody.

Prosecutors charged V.R. with using the Emirates ID of another Indian person, identified as S.D.

The suspect did not show up before the Dubai Court of First Instance where he was scheduled to enter a plea on Sunday.

His lawyer told presiding judge Mohammad Jamal that V.R. is outside the country and will be returning soon.

Court records have shown that three of the seven friends [who were busted along with V.R. trying to enter the party] and are under 18 have been referred to the Dubai Juveniles Court facing charges of using someone else’s IDs and using forged IDs.

Meanwhile the remaining four suspects, aged between 18 and 20, were referred to the Dubai Court of First Instance for forging Dutch, Italian and Arab driving licences and IDs.

Records said the eight students used those IDs to enter the party where only those aged 21 and above were allowed entry.

V.R. will be legally notified to attend the next hearing on November 2.
