On May 10 beauty vlogger Nikkie de Jager’s video went viral. In this seven-minute film titled ‘The Power of MAKEUP!’ she filmed herself skilfully applying makeup to half of her face. The other half, was left natural.
Why? She wanted to show the world, that it’s OK to love makeup just for the fun of it. Her video was to fight against “makeup shaming”. The video has been viewed more than 18,300,000 times.
#thepowerofmakeup - On social media channels, many women are sharing the video and posting selfies of themselves with only half of their face made-up along with the hashtag #thepowerofmakeup.

@brassdollfin: “I am so pleased with the #powerofmakeup concept, so here’s mine. It’s fun, and it’s an expression of myself, but I’m me either way. #thepowerofmakeup #selfie #nofilter.” [RDS_150601 YT Instagram]
@ginamarie_mua: “As of lately I’ve been seeing a lot of Hate towards people who LOVE MAKEUP. I love wearing makeup, but I am not afraid to go without it! My makeup doesn’t define me. I don’t wear makeup for men, or to impress anyone, OR because I’m insecure. I wear my black eyeliner because it makes me feel strong, I wear lipstick because it makes me feel feminine and beautiful. Insecurity within myself is NOT the issue, as much as it is inside that person on the other end of the comments, or some random in a store. I have freckles, i have problem areas.. But I also have confidence WITH and WITHOUT my war paint.. and I encourage you to stand up to anyone who has a problem with your beautiful made up or beautifully natural faces and tell them to KISS. YOUR. ASS. Have a wonderful day. #StopBeautyShaming.” [RDS_150601 YT Instagram 1]
