Posting signs or posters at construction sites that claim adherence to safety norms, seems to have become the norm. Construction companies are quite aware that any negligence on their part would have serious consequences, and the management and owners could be fined. But no heed is given to such warnings.
A few days ago, as I was returning from school, I spotted a dangerous sight in Sharjah’s Al Qasimia area (as seen in photograph). Such scenes are often visible when you travel on the roads.
How can these construction companies be so careless? What kind of safety measures are being taken by such companies? The aluminium sheet is dangerously protruding and is an accident waiting to happen. In many cases, I have found that the pavement is nearly blocked by the aluminium sheets supported with wooden planks or rubble, forcing pedestrians to walk right on the road. Is that safe?
Accidents can always happen on construction sites, despite taking all precautions. But, this kind of negligence by construction companies shows lack of respect for human lives and the safety and welfare of the pedestrians. The chances of accidents happening can be greatly avoided if the staff took certain safety measures, keeping the pedestrians in mind.
