Let’s be happy, one more terrorist gone
I cannot understand why there should be negative reaction in Pakistan to this act that was long overdue (‘Obama cleared drone attack on Taliban leader’, Gulf News, May 23). The Pakistan military is fighting so hard and tackling such a tough ongoing operation to protect its border and get rid of the militants that have created havoc and have caused destruction in our lives and property. Peace talks will not yield results as lessons from the past have proven. Why aren’t they being rounded up and thrown into prison and also all those elements who support them? To support them means they support terrorism. If the desire is to stop these barbaric people and an earnest effort is made to track them down and get them before they can strike again, it will resolve a lot of issues and help the Pakistan army. Under the leadership of General Raheel Shareef, the army is waging a war against the militants. Forceful and decisive action is what is needed to eradicate this menace forever.
I for one welcome the drone attack, and I am quite relieved to learn that at least one more terrorist is down.

More libraries in Dubai
As I can see, Gulf News is taking on a great initiative with the #GNBookClub, so I would like to suggest something that is very important to encourage reading. In Dubai, there aren’t enough libraries for the public.
We should focus on libraries in each and every neighbourhood. A small library where a pedestrian can stop for some time and read the current affairs from the latest newspaper or a good book will do wonders for the community.
It’s my eighth month in Dubai, and I’m really missing libraries.
I hope the authorities can consider my suggestion.

More needs to happen
Again, a child has fallen to her death (‘Child dies after falling from 8th floor of a Tecom building’, Gulf News, May 23). These poor parents must be in a state of shock and in a tragic condition after the loss of their child. Why don’t the authorities make it a compulsory rule to install fixed grills to apartment windows so children can be safe? So many children have lost their lives due to apathy. There are rules that have been imposed to prosecute parents if a child falls, but I think more needs to be done.

Accidents waiting to happen
Mr Sulaiman Ismail, they do. It’s just that toddlers are an accident waiting to happen. Parents should not only look after their children, but take extraordinary diligence and they must not leave them alone even for a second. My prayers are with this angel and the parents as well.

Protect your children!
Why do people always chastise and refer to the authorities for a solution? As a mother of four children, I was constantly aware and vigilant of all of the possible dangers when it came to my children’s safety. This is another tragic incident that could have been avoided! Nobody is responsible for the safety of our children! That’s our job!

Grill can only help
Nobody is blaming the authorities. I should have an option of installing safety grills. It’s that simple. Not everyone is able to have a parent at home all the time. Some of us have to put in double the effort. And understand the mind of a child... They may not always be aware, they get excited, they get distracted and then accidents can happen. So installing a safety grill is not doing any harm to anyone.

Who leaves a five year old?
Did anyone actually read the article? The maid left the five-year-old alone in the apartment while she took the two-year-old to the park! Who leaves a five-year-old alone at home?

Do as much as possible
The girl won’t come back to us by everyone pointing fingers. The problem is still there. Do you have children and unsafe windows? What can you do to make it safe? Ask yourself that when you move anywhere in the world. How can my children be safe? May God help these parents and help me keep my children safe.

Parents at fault
I agree that it isn’t the duty of the authorities to make arrangements in the buildings for the children. It’s the parents’ responsibility to take care of their children. Not only in this building, but in many, I have seen mothers enjoying their time in the malls and they aren’t taking care of their children. Even at home, children can get hurt in bathtubs or can fall down the stairs. It’s such a sad incident, and I pray for the mother who lost her child.

They trusted the nanny
Both the mother and father were at work. They left her with the maid. Who is an adult and should have been responsible enough not to leave the girl home alone. So don’t blame the parents when you don’t know their situation. I blame the irresponsible nanny. I was there, and I saw it all. They look like hardworking parents who need to make a living for their family and trusted their children with the maid while they did that.

High hopes for new governor
The 66-year-old Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader who was bestowed the post of Lt Governor of the South Indian territory, Puducherry, was the latest dramatic development in Puducherry politics (‘Kiran Bedi appointed new LG of Puducherry’, Gulf News, May 28). This time the government and high command of BJP made the right decision for this honest administrative police officer, compared to the last decision of the New Delhi polls as a Chief Minister candidate. I hope she will deliver on her responsibilities, which she has proved earlier in her career.

A piece of the puzzle!
Politics in the workplace is always the major obstacle in business development worldwide. Where diverse employees’ move from working together to achieving a common goal, to working against each other means failing the goals of others. Employees compete against each other to show they are the best and that their colleagues are not as skilled.
To avoid such obstacles you need to create a healthy working environment, by adapting a team working concept and to make a team in the office. Changes are not needed if it’s their nationalities, gender, religion or even their hairstyle, but you need to look beyond to a fundamental change in process. The beliefs that stir behaviour are needed to elevate employees’ perception and relation toward others.
When the employees grasp that each member has unique characteristics and particular elements, each is a certain piece of the puzzle that is needed to complete the whole and get the full picture. Only then is their perception and relation towards others elevated.
Team working concepts will be achieved only when employees unite for one goal, as a single piece of a puzzle that support the whole.
