Large renewal fee
I received a credit card from FGB one year ago, under the notion that it was free for life. I was informed by the salesperson that this was a limited offer and by applying for the credit card with her, I would not have to pay annual fees. All I would need to do is fill a form, sign it and return it to her, and she would activate the offer for me.
However, now, I have received a bank statement with Dh500 charged to my card as card renewal fees, and I have also been affected by a monthly credit shield fee. I contacted the bank’s call centre on July 27 to register a complaint, but they said they had nothing called ‘complaints’. They could only open a ‘service request’ with the case details.
I got a call from a customer care representative on July 30, and she asked me to make retail purchases of Dh2,000 by utilising my card, as the only option to waive the annual fee. I have clearly explained my disinterest to her, since my outstanding has already reached 85 per cent of my available limit, and I don’t have any further requirements until the end of this year.
My petition was declined and closed from the bank on that evening and it is very frustrating to get such service.
I humbly request Gulf News’ intervention to resolve my issue.

The management of FGB responds:
FGB is grateful for all customer feedback to which we give careful consideration as we strive to consistently deliver the highest standards of service. The bank has been in contact with Mr Majji, and the matter has been resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Mr Majji responds:
I would like to confirm that a representative from FGB called and conveyed their apologies. It happened due to their fault, and they informed me that the annual fee reversal request would be approved within two to three working days.
Thank you very much, Gulf News, for helping me to sort out the issue with FGB so quickly. I appreciate all the good work.
