Producers Andrew Mason and Keith Rodger and the cast of The Water Diviner walked the red carpet ahead of the gala screening of Russell Crowe’s Australian war film at the Dubai International Film Festival (Diff) on Thursday.

Ukrainian actress Olga Kurylenko, a former Bond girl (Quantum of Solace), plays a Turkish girl, Ayshe. She said in-depth research went into the historical content of the film and that it was interesting to work on the 100-year-old setting of the film.

She wore a spectacular Alessandra Rich gown and Jimmy Choo shoes.

Turkish actors and filmmakers Cem Yilmaz and Yilmaz Erdogan also walked the red carpet. Yilmaz said that his work as a stand-up comedian gave him the opportunity to play Jamal in the film. Erdogan, who plays Major Hassan, a Turkish officer, said it was easy to undergo the physical training required for the horse-riding and action scenes, but that it was difficult to adapt to the intensity of the role, in which he undergoes moral turmoil.

The red carpet was followed by the film’s gala screening. The Water Diviner is the directorial debut of renowned actor Russell Crowe who travels from Australia to Turkey in search of his three soldier sons who went missing after the World War I at Gallipoli.

The film is set to release on December 25 in the UAE.
