Dubai: If you are a regular commuter between Dubai and Abu Dhabi, you can finally treat yourself to a hearty meal off the busy highway, thanks to a novel food truck park that will open by the end of the month. Called Last Exit, the Meraas-developed park is located on Exit 11. If you are heading from Dubai, all you have to do is take the Ghantoot exit, make a U turn and the park is on your right.

Now here’s what you can expect at this unique gourmet pit-stop. You can pick and choose your cuisine as it features more than 10 food trucks, including the American Burger Pit Clinton St. Bakery and Big Smoke Burger, Mexican Baja Fresh, Latin American Poco Loco, or even the homegrown Hot Dog Stand, The Brass and Operation Falafel. There’s also Il Café De Roma and Starbucks for the staunch coffee lover.

Retail stores

Besides the food truck outlets, which have been specially formatted and laid out, there are retail and convenience stores, a kids play area, restrooms, prayer rooms, charge up boxes and ATMs.

Being positioned as a zany outdoor concept, Last Exit heavily draws upon rehashed automotive parts, giving visitors an authentic feel of a truck park.

Earlier this week, Dubai Municipality said any food truck in the city can only be stationed at an approved venue and cater to events with prior permission from the Food Safety Department.

In other words, the food trucks cannot move around the city to sell food. They are not permitted to have on-board kitchens either and can only sell the final preparations of the food made at their kitchens elsewhere. All food safety and hygiene regulations, including training for employees applicable to food establishments, would however be applicable to the food trucks.
