DUBAI An Indian man in The Gardens is calling for a security overhaul in the community after a burglar broke into their ground floor apartment in Building 127 and stole cash and jewellery worth over Dh30,000.
The incident took place on a weekend earlier this month when the man was out shopping with his wife and children.
When the family returned around 10.45pm they found their home had been ransacked. “Everything was in a mess. The cupboards inside the bedroom were open and our clothes lay strewn on the floor. Cash and gold jewellery was missing. It looks like the burglar entered our home through the balcony door because its lock was smashed,” said the man.
“The thief seemed only interested in cash and jewellery which is why he even tried to break the piggybank of my kids but didn’t touch the laptops kept on the dining table. We called the police who took fingerprints and searched the house for more clues. Later we came to know another house in the neighbourhood was burgled the same day.”
Following the break-in some community members have called for installation of security cameras. “There are no CCTV cameras here, although I have heard the developer is considering installing them,” said a resident.
