Dubai Residents of Jumeirah Village Triangle (JVT) are calling for better infrastructure and civic amenities in the Nakheel development located between Al Khail and Emirates Road.
“The only way to access the community from Al Khail road is through a sandy patch. There are no lights or road signs. There was a proper access point linking JVT and Al Khail in the original plan. It’s about time they opened it,” said Emirati Mohammad Al Dah, owner and resident of a two-bedroom villa here.
“The roads are poorly lit and there are not enough entry and exit points. My wife and mother avoid driving in the night because they fear they might lose their way,” he added.
Indian expat Sammyo H., who is among the first JVT residents, said the community lacks amenities like supermarkets, groceries and medical clinics. “The closest grocery store from my place is in The Springs which is a fair distance away. I shudder thinking about it, but if there’s a medical emergency, I will have to drive through dark, unpaved roads to reach a hospital,” he said.
A Nakheel spokesman said work on the Al Khail Road access points is on and efforts are underway to improve street lighting in underdeveloped areas. He said they have announced a retail centre at Jumeirah Park to cater to the needs of residents.
Villa entension
Responding to allegations that Nakheel had reneged on its promise to allow residents to extend their villas by two more rooms without any additional cost, the spokesman said their policies are consistent with other developments.
Several residents have accused Nakheel of charging money for something they claimed was promised as free. “Initially we were told that there won’t be any charges, but some time back Nakheel sent us a notice saying we have to pay them Dh150 per square foot for constructing the additional rooms,” said Al Dah.
Earlier around 50 residents signed a letter urging Nakheel to scale the charges down to Dh50 per square foot.
The Jumeirah Village Triangle is part of the Jumeirah Village which has 2,188 villas and townhouses.
