Sharjah: Nine days after a fire claimed the lives of five persons in a building on February 12, a Sudanese woman who was admitted in the ICU of Al Kuwaiti Hospital in a critical condition died on Wednesday.

The deceased included a Moroccan mother and her two children, aged four and six.

The condition of the Sudanese woman’s husband is improving at the hospital.

Dr Eisa Al Moa’almi, head of the emergency department at Al Kuwaiti Hospital, told Gulf News that the hospital received five victims, including three who had already died.

He said two of the injured included a Sudanese man, 43, and his wife, 36.

The man told doctors that he heard noises outside their flat and went to investigate, and saw the corridor and staircase full of smoke and a fire raging. The duo lived on the third floor.

They tried to go down but could not due to the thick smoke. Eventually, they fell unconscious due to smoke inhalation, and were rescued by the Civil Defence team.

The deceased has been identified as Salma Babake who was suffering from asthma, according to her husband.
