Sharjah: A 33-year-old woman told police that she jumped from the second-storey window of her house to escape her husband’s physical abuse.

The woman was admitted to Al Qasimi Hospital after she sustained injuries, police said on Tuesday.

The woman sustained fractures and remains in Al Qasimi Hospital’s surgical unit where doctors described her condition as stable.

Police said the woman, who is of Syrian nationality, is being kept under police observation until her condition improves so that she can be questioned.

Police explained that the incident happened on September 8 around 5am.

The woman told police in the beginning that she had intended to end her life but later she changed her statement, police said.

The woman claimed that her husband assaulted her and she wanted to escape from the house because he prevented her from leaving the house.

Meanwhile, the husband informed police that he had heard his wife talking to a strange man on her mobile phone and he locked her in the room and approached the police station and reported the incident.

When he returned to the house, he saw his wife jumping from the window.

The case is being investigated by Wasit police.
