Dubai: Have you ever wondered how airplanes are kept clean between flights?

Apparently, it takes a lot of muscle to keep aircrafts tidy and looking fresh just before every journey.

And with commercial planes’ turnaround times always kept short – they don’t usually sit the whole day at the gate after a flight -- an army of ground staff has to do the cleaning with precision and as quickly as possible.

In the case of Emirates, one of the largest carriers in the Middle East, it takes just 25 minutes to a little over half an hour to keep an aircraft spick and span before it hits the skies again.

The Dubai-based airline released a video on Wednesday to offer flyers a behind-the-scenes look at how planes are cleaned.

According to Emirates, a Boeing 777 aircraft requires a team of 21 people to clean the cabins – vacuum the floors, scrub the seats and tables, pick up the trash, replace the headrest and pillow covers – in just 25 minutes.

An Airbus A380, on the other hand, requires an army of 42 people to get the cleaning done in 35 minutes.

The airline’s cleaning tasks are handled by the Aircraft Appearance Team under dnata, which takes care of Emirates’ ground handling, catering and cargo operations in 129 airports.

The team cleans 270 planes on a daily basis, or a total of 40 million seats every year.
