Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Dialogue will be praised by the UN organisations during the General Assembly session in 2018 for its active role in regional consultations, a senior official said.
Saqr Ghobash Saeed Ghobash, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, said, “Abu Dhabi Dialogue’s achievements in promoting regional consultations mark a unique leap in dialogue between member countries and encourage them to strengthen cooperation.”
Ghobash’s statement was made during a meeting on the ministry’s premises in Abu Dhabi in the presence of Sri Lankan Foreign Employment Minister Thalatha Athukorala, who is the president of the current session of Abu Dhabi Dialogue. Also present were Silvestre Bello, Philippines’ Secretary of Labour and Employment, and ambassadors of 17 member countries.
The UAE welcomes the desire of any member state to enter into agreements on domestic labour and invest in the domestic work opportunities available in the UAE within a friendly work environment and full legal protection for labourers,” Ghobash said.
He referred to the memorandum of understanding signed between the UAE and Philippines on recruitment and employment of domestic workers in the UAE.
Ghobash said this MoU is an example of the UAE’s keenness to bolster cooperation with other countries to facilitate the process for approving and recruiting domestic workers in a manner that ensures transparency between the contracting parties.
The UAE hosts the General Secretariat of the Abu Dhabi Dialogue which was launched under an initiative by the UAE in 2008 to offer a platform for dialogue between countries sending and receiving workers in Asia.
