A new campaign by an electronics brand in the UAE is looking for aspiring fashion designers, inventors, educators and entrepreneurs in the UAE – and at stake is a $35,000 prize fund.

Samsung Gulf Electronics has kickstarted a campaign called Launching People, where residents in the UAE can submit their ideas under four categorties – fashion, education, invention and start-ups. The projects will then be evaluated by experts in the respective fields and eight finalists picked. The finalists will then be put up for a public vote where one project from each category with the most votes will be chosen winner, and will receive the fund plus mentorship from an expert.

The finalists will be announced on March 19 and public voting will close on April 9.

Mentors include Emirati filmmaker and creator of the animated series Freej for invention; Dubai-based Palestinian designer Reema Al Banna for fashion; Dino Varkey, the Group COO of Gems Education for education and Fadi Malas, the CEO of UAE food chain Just Falafel for start-ups.

The competition is also open to residents of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Yemen and Qatar. Applicants can now upload their projects on launchingpeople.ae.
