Firm has not kept promises

I have worked for more than one-and-half years for a Dubai-based company. When I joined they promised they would give me transportation and accommodation, now they are giving me an accommodation allowance of only Dh500, and I cannot find a good place to stay.

A reader from Dubai asks: I have worked for more than one-and-half years for a Dubai-based company. When I joined they promised they would give me transportation and accommodation, now they are giving me an accommodation allowance of only Dh500, and I cannot find a good place to stay.

Moreover, they are not giving transportation charges and are not providing transportation. Is this is legal? Can I ask them? If I ask them will they sack me?

If the labour contract includes the transportation allowance then the questioner has the right to claim the same as per the law, and thus if the questioner cannot get such an allowance from the sponsor in an amicable way, he can refer the matter to the Ministry of Labour as the sponsor is violating the Labour Law, and I would confirm to the questioner that such an allowance will be accumulated and counted for him upon the end of his service if he can prove he has not received it during his service.
