I have been working with a retail company in Dubai for the past one year on a limited contract. Now, due to some changes in the work conditions and a better opportunity, I am thinking of resigning from my job and joining another company. Is it possible for me to do that? Under the given circumstances, can the employer impose an entry ban on me? If yes, how can the ban be lifted? Also will there be a labour ban imposed on me? What service benefits would I be eligible to receive?

The questioner should not terminate the employment contract since it is for limited period. In case of termination, he will be in violation of the Labour Law and will not be entitled to his dues except for leave dues. Further, the questioner may be requested to compensate the employer if the employer proves he has been affected by the termination of the contract. The employer may request from the Ministry of Labour to impose a one-year ban which shall be irrevocable except on the employer’s request only.
