Dubai: Happiness can be very elusive for some people – and in many cases, it’s the workplace that plays a big role in that.
Professional networking company LinkedIn has recently sifted through its huge database to find out how happy UAE professionals are in their jobs.
According to the results, workers in the country are the happiest in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region, with the number of professionals identifying “happiness as part of their job titles” doubling recently.
The UAE also emerged as one of the top three countries in the world with the fastest growing number of happy workers, with a year-on-year growth of more than 100 per cent.
“With the UAE government appointing the country’s first Minister of State for Happiness recently, putting a smile on the face of UAE residents is increasingly becoming a top priority for the UAE government as they continue with their initiatives to make it the happiest city on earth,” LinkedIn said in statement.
The results of the study coincided with other bodies or research that named the UAE one of the countries in the world that offer “good jobs.”
A separate study by Gallup, which surveyed 1,000 adults in 155 countries, found that more than half of the working population in the UAE (58 per cent) claimed to have a good job.
The percentage of professionals who have “good jobs” in the UAE is one of the highest in the world and higher than the regional average of 21 per cent.
LinkedIn released the new data as part of its digital mapping of the economy using information from its three million UAE members.
“It’s clear that the UAE is the happiest place in the region to live and work – our numbers can confirm it,” said Nada Enan, senior manager for marketing and public relations at LinkedIn Mena.
“With fantastic education and employment opportunities, it’s no wonder that so many different nationalities call the UAE their home.”
It's not clear, however, how many per cent of the UAE professionals are happy in their work. LinkedIn also could not release a complete list ranking the happiness level across the region.
"The study was released for UAE only in the current stage. Should we decide to extend the study regionally, we will make sure we share it with the market," the company said.
