Riyadh: The UAE and Saudi Arabia on Wednesday held high-level talks over US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognise occupied Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, arrived in the Saudi capital on Wednesday and met King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz.

The meeting was held in the presence of Prince Mohammad Bin Salman Bin Abdul Aziz, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, and Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.

Shaikh Mohammad and King Salman discussed the repercussions of the US decision and also deliberated mechanisms to coordinate actions to protect historic and unwavering rights of Palestinians over occupied Jerusalem. The leaders also discussed continuing efforts to find a just solution that supports the Palestinian issue as per the relevant international laws and the Arab Peace Initiative.

Shaikh Mohammad and King Salman also spoke about developments in Yemen, and efforts exerted to thwart the Iran-backed Houthi militias and armed terrorist organisations that threaten the Yemeni people as well as regional and international security.

Shaikh Mohammad emphasised that the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, firmly stands by Saudi Arabia in facing regional challenges.

The two leaders also discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as strategic cooperation on a number of bilateral and regional issues and their efforts to thwart challenges and regional interferences that aim to destabilise the security of the region.

Shaikh Mohammad said that cooperation and solidarity is vital between countries in the region regarding issues and challenges. He reaffirmed the importance of unifying Arab ranks, particularly in light of current regional circumstances and expressed his confidence in Saudi Arabia’s role, under the leadership of King Salman, in this regard.

Shaikh Mohammad also said that he is confident of Saudi Arabia’s role in serving the issues of Arab and Muslim nations and their higher interests, noting Saudi Arabia’s historic and firm stand against conspiracies and terrorist designs facing the region.

Shaikh Mohammad said that the UAE and Saudi Arabia are well-aware of how critical the current phase is, and risks looming over the future of the region, its nations and peoples.

He said that the historic and joint responsibility of the UAE and Saudi Arabia towards these changes and developments is based on the grounds of solid cooperation, understanding and synergy, and that the Arab Coalition is a successful aspect of this joint work that succeeded in curbing the deterioration of the region’s security.

Shaikh Mohammad was received by Prince Mohammad Bin Salman upon his arrival in Riyadh.

Prince Mohammad welcomed Shaikh Mohammad and they exchanged talks on bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them to serve mutual aspirations and interests.
