Dubai: The Ministry of Education approved yesterday the 2016-2017 operational plan with 27 initiatives to be implemented during the first, second and third term.

The plan is based on six strategic objectives that would help achieve the national agenda indicators launched earlier by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The plan aims to increase the efficiency of educational authorities and ensure institutional and educational quality performance so as to serve the academic cadres, upgrade students’ educational achievements and provide an appropriate educational environment, Fawzia Hassan Garib, Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Operations, said.

“Each objective of the plan includes a number of initiatives and performance indicators. The first objective is to ensure the provision of a quality and equal education for everyone, especially pre-school.

“This objective involves six initiatives that aim to increase students’ grades in public schools, enhance Emirati students’ academic achievements in the reading test (SIBA), tackle the school dropout phenomenon and provide material requirements for students with special needs,” Garib added.

The second objective is to prepare distinguished educational leaders and staff. It includes three initiatives that are meant to increase the rates of directors proving themselves in supporting the educational progress and increasing the training hours to 25, among others, she said.

Four other initiatives were dedicated to ensuring the creation of education-supportive environments. These initiatives aim to use and invest in school premises, improve schools’ physical environments, increase school volunteering hours and launch programmes that entrench national values and identity, Garib highlighted.

The plan also aims to root the innovation culture in the institutional environment through accepting suggestions for development submitted by employees in the educational sector and increasing successful innovative practices as well as the number of applications innovated by teachers to enhance student learning, Garib said.
