Dubai: The UAE is committed to dealing with any personal security concerns both efficiently and transparently through the nation’s law enforcement authorities, said a senior judge on Tuesday.
“Dubai Judicial Institute (DJI) is committed to strengthening the country’s security and safety and that of its citizens, residents and visitors,” DJI’s director-general, Judge Dr Jamal Al Sumaiti, said during the concluding session of a three-day workshop on ‘Legal and Judicial Issues Related to National Events Security’.
The DJI co-organised the workshop with the US Embassy in the UAE that with aim of providing security, legal and judicial specialists with the highest international knowledge and skills in the field of security.
“The workshop achieved its key objective of enhancing the capabilities of our cadres in the security, legal and judicial institutions, in line with the tremendous development witnessed in the UAE in general and Dubai in particular across various fields as the nation prepares to host Expo 2020 Dubai.
“We at DJI are proud of our country’s security institutions and their achievements. Our unique and advanced workshop reflected this and was organised in accordance with the Dubai Plan 2021 to promote the emirate as a global destination at various levels,” said Dr Al Sumaiti.
Paul Malik, the US Consul-General in the UAE, and Najeeb Mohammad Al Ali, executive director of the Expo 2020 Bureau, and officials attended the workshop.
Over the course of the workshop, participants followed a hypothetical case study and covered topics ranging from how to counter, identify and prepare for terrorist attacks, to how to interrogate suspects and collect evidence for trial. The workshop also explored how international cooperation can heighten prevention and facilitate the trial process.
Participants finalised the hypothetical case study by summarising the evidence and litigating the case while preserving the rights of suspects during the workshop’s last day.
