Dubai: The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) is withdrawing American-made low sodium Kikkoman ‘soy sauce’ product from UAE markets due to its alcohol content.

The decision followed results of specialised accredited laboratory tests.

“In coordination with the authorities concerned, the ministry has received notifications of alcohol content in the US-made Kikkoman soy sauce and urges consumers to dispose of the product if they have purchased it,” the ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

The withdrawal follows a similar decision on August 8, prohibiting the imports of regular Japanese Kikkoman soy sauce due to its alcohol content.

The ministry at the time banned the circulation of the product in the UAE market in accordance with Ministerial Resolution No. (539) of 2012 on the Standard Guide to the Procedures for the Prohibition of Handling and Banning of Food.

The decision came based on the results of tests conducted by specialised accredited laboratories, which confirmed that several samples of the product with different production dates violated the rules.
