Sharjah: Two men were killed on the spot on Friday night when a speeding minibus slammed into the rear of a heavy truck due to speeding and not keeping enough distance between the two vehicles, police said.

The deadly collision took place at around 8pm on the Sharjah–Al Dhaid Road heading towards Sharjah.

Police patrols and paramedics found that the driver of the minibus and a passenger had died in the accident.

Initial investigations revealed that the driver of the truck, which was carrying building materials, was driving at a low speed on the right side of the road and the driver of the minibus was driving on the same side at high speed.

The driver of the mini bus tried to avoid the collision with the truck but he lost control and rammed into the rear of the truck.

Police patrols cordoned off the road to ease the work of removing the bodies and to prevent rubbernecking by passing motorists.

Police also diverted traffic to alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion.

The bodies were moved to hospital to be handed over to their families.

The case of the incident was referred to the competent authorities to complete the necessary formalities.
