Abu Dhabi: An Indonesian woman and a Omani man have been jailed for seven days pending investigation into an immigration crime. The first suspect had allegedly attempted entering the country illegally by disguising herself as a GCC national. Her accomplice, the Omani, reportedly told Al Hili port authorities that the woman with him was his wife. He is also believed to have given officials an authentic GCC passport with a different name.

Al Ain prosecution investigations revealed that the first suspect had absconded from her sponsor in Oman with whom she stayed for 10 days. She then met a ountrywoman whom she asked for help to take her to Al Ain.

The countrywoman connected the Indonesian suspect with the Omani, who took her in his personal vehicle towards the UAE border. When asked for identification papers at UAE Customs, the Omani allegedly presented officials with his personal ID card and his wife’s passport. However, it later appeared that the person in the vehicle was not the same woman in the passport.

According to court documents, the first suspect confessed to the crimes against her adding that she was a former UAE resident who was deported after contracting a dangerous and contagious illness. She is under a permanent ban from re-entering the country, the document said.

She also revealed that her main purpose of coming to the UAE was to find a job. The second suspect also confessed and stated that he had agreed with a Bengladeshi man to bring the Indonesian woman into the country for Dh700.

The Omani man’s vehicle has also been impounded.
