Fujairah: Police have arrested two suspects accused of a string of villa burglaries in Fujairah and other emirates.

The two accused, an Emirati and an Arab, specialised in stealing deposit boxes from empty villas, said Major Saeed Obaid Al Kindi, deputy director of the Criminal and Investigation Department.

After committing the crime, the two immediately divided the stolen items and threw the safes into the sea. Police divers recovered a number of the safes from the sea.

Several villa owners had lodged complaints about theft of safes containing cash and valuables.

The police inspected their villas and gathered evidence that helped them track down the suspects. A police team raided the house of one of the suspects and arrested him. He led police to his partner.

During the raid, the police confiscated tools, including metal cutting scissors.

The police also found some stolen items, such as branded watches, accessories, electronic devices and cash, in addition to weapons, which were stolen from a nearby emirate.

The suspects confessed to their crimes and led police to the location of the discarded safes.
