Dubai: Two Asian men were arrested for being involved in narcotics trade and 572 capsules of heroin weighing 4.8kg were seized in September, said Dubai Police.

Major-General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant to the Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, said that the two men — A.A.R.K, 28, and H.A.T., 36 — were of the same nationality.

A.A.R.K. was charged with drug possession and promotion, and H.A.T. was charged with criminal involvement, as he supplied the former with the drugs, and resisting arrest.

Col Eid Thani Hareb, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department, said A.A.R.K., a construction worker, was arrested from his place of residence at a labour accommodations in a Dubai industrial area.

H.A.T., 36, a salesperson for a private company, was arrested near a mall in Abu Dhabi with the help of the Abu Dhabi Police.

“The first suspect attempted to escape when we ambushed his home. The other also resisted arrest and attempted to flee,” said Col Hareb.

He said they seized the narcotics, which were hidden in plastic bags in a backpack.

“The first suspect admitted to receiving the drugs from the second suspect with the aim of selling them to citizens and residents.”

They were transferred to public prosecution.
