Dubai Two brothers — identical twins — have been jailed for six months for smoking a cigarette stuffed with morphine and taking tramadol without a medical prescription.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the 19-year-old Emirati twins of consuming tramadol after they entered a guilty plea.

Drug enforcement officers arrested the twins in Dubai in August.

When asked by presiding judge Ezzat Abdul Lat of they had consumed tramadol and morphine, the brothers admitted that they used the banned substance contending that they did not know where they got it from.

They also confessed that they smoked a morphine-stuffed cigarette one day prior to their arrest.

During the trial, the twins asked the court for mercy.

According to the primary ruling, the defendants were handed a reduced punishment due to their young age [under 21 years old] as per the Penal Law.

Thursday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
