Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor will once again collaborate with Atticus Ross on the soundtrack for a film about the Boston Marathon bombings.

Patriots Day, directed by Peter Berg, follows the narrative of Ed Davis, the Boston Police commissioner who led the manhunt to find the bombers in 2013.

It will also use real footage from US current affairs show 60 Minutes.

“I couldn’t be more honoured than to be working with these two straight up genius artists,” Peter Berg, Battleship and Lone Survivor director, posted on Instagram.

“Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Bringing their deep soul and fury to Patriots Day.”

The Oscar-winning pair have previously worked on moody, sinister soundtracks to many of David Fincher’s films, such as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Gone Girl and The Social Network, which won Best Original Score at the 2011 Academy Awards.

Last month they confirmed they would create the music for Leonardo DiCaprio’s climate battle documentary, Before the Flood.

The cast of Patriots Day includes Kevin Bacon, Mark Wahlberg, John Goodman, J.K. Simmons and Michelle Monaghan and will premiere on December 21.

Aside from his cinematic exploits, Reznor has also promised new material from his industrial rock group Nine Inch Nails, tweeting last year: “New NIN coming in 2016. Other stuff, too.”
