Dubai: The organising committee of Dubai Canvas has invited four of the “world’s best” mural artists to showcase their creations at the 2018 edition of the annual public art festival.
Leading mural artists participating in the festival include Andreas von Chrzanowski, also known as ‘Case’; Joshua Santos Rivera, also known as ‘Bikismo’; Alex Senna and Etien.
Organised by Brand Dubai, the creative arm of the Government of Dubai Media Office, and held in partnership with Meraas, the fourth edition of Dubai Canvas will be held at La Mer, Jumeirah, in the first week of March.
Aisha Bin Kalli, project manager of Dubai Canvas, said: “Brand Dubai is keen to expand the range of art forms displayed at the festival as part of our aim to give the public opportunities to engage with a wider variety of contemporary art and further enhance Dubai’s growing profile as a hub for art and creativity.”
She added: “Apart from 3D artists, Brand Dubai has invited renowned global mural artists to display their work at this year’s Dubai Canvas. This also supports one of our key objectives to provide opportunities for young local artists from various contemporary art disciplines to meet with international artists.”
Artists participating in Dubai Canvas will start working on their creations on February 26 at the event venue. Members of the public as well as art students and professional artists are invited to watch the master artists at work at La Mer, Jumeirah.
Chrzanowski, who is German, recently partnered with Brand Dubai to paint a mural featuring the UAE’s founding fathers on the Hatta Dam.
Rivera, a native of Puerto Rico, is credited with having painted the largest mural in the Caribbean.
French 3D muralist Etien is a versatile artist who has created works ranging from street art to commercial art.
Senna, a Brazilian street artist, will bring his vivid expressions of love, romance, and relationships to Dubai Canvas. Colour-blind, Senna has regularly used a single colour in his drawings.
